Howdy backers!

This is the home stretch! We only have 4 days left in the campaign! Thank you so much for helping me make Wu Wei: Journey of the Changing Path a reality. I'm hoping we still have a chance to hit a few of these stretch goals.

Please help me boost the signal. If you can share Wu Wei with your friends via social media, email, or shouting at them on the street that would be great! This is our last chance to offer this game to folks. The last day of the campaign is Sunday, April 23rd. If you'd like to get an additional copy of the game and increase your pledge, that would also be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for everything!

Best,
Justin

DOUG & DOUG GAMING REVIEW

We had WEI too much fun with this one *wink wink*... no but seriously, this is an amazing game and a must have for your collection! - Doug & Doug Gaming

SOLO CAMPAIGN ADDED

Not only is there going to be a solo campaign but I have enlisted the help of Mike Mullins (a solo gaming enthusiast and experienced developer) to help me put the final touches on the solo version of the game. I'm really excited to have Mike on board. I've spent a lot of time with this game and if there's going to be a solo campaign, it's going to the best is can possibly be!

"I'm elated to be a part of the development of Wu Wei. The multiplayer game translates incredibly well to solo play. The variable board setup, unique elemental abilities, and the difficulty level I insist upon will surely satisfy my fellow solo gamers." - Mike Mullins

Mike Mullins is a longtime playtester and developer, best known for the creation of solo modes for games such as Castle Dice, Lagoon, and Compounded. He's the designer of Buttonshy's solo game Pentaquark, as well as the co-designer of Bottom of the 9th. He's also done solo modes for Fleet: Wharfside, Ahead in the Clouds, and Circle the Wagons and he's on the Board of Directors for Unpub, the Unpublished Games Network (Unpub.net).

Please spread the word about Wu Wei! Only 12 days left!

A new stretch goal we are working toward right now is a solo campaign for Wu Wei. We have over 350 backers right now. When we hit 400 backers, the solo campaign will be added to the game! This will be a training mode so you can sharpen your skills in preparation for your next board game night!

We need to keep getting eyeballs on our Kickstarter. I want to hit all of our stretch goals. I really want that custom plastic insert! Here's how you can help!

1) Ask your friends to become $1 backers. If they like what they see, they can raise their contribution to get a copy of the game. This helps bring attention to our campaign on Kickstarter.

2) Follow us on Twitter and tweet the campaign link: @graywolfgamesCheck out Wu Wei: Journey of the Changing Path on Kickstarter! @graywolfgames @kickstarter #boardgames #tabletop http://kck.st/2nOHlIM

What's this Tao all about?
almost 7 years ago – Fri, Apr 07, 2017 at 08:11:54 PM

Hey backers!

I just wanted to take a moment to share with you an amazing podcast called WHAT'S THIS TAO ALL ABOUT? I wish this show had existed when I started getting into philosophy and Taoism. The principles of Wu Wei: Journey of the Changing Path grew out of my understanding of the Tao and wu wei is one of the main ideas of Taoism. This is my definition: Align with nature. Embrace effortless action. Do without doing. These concepts are a great thing to remember (especially when running a Kickstarter). This podcast features my teacher Sijo Carl Totton (Doctor of Psychology, Kung Fu Grandmaster, and Taoist Abbott) and Tod Perry (a witty comedian and aspiring sage). I cannot recommend this program enough.

Here's a description of the podcast:

What’s this Tao all About? is a lighthearted journey through the wisdom of the Tao hosted by a Tao Master and a guy who’s hosted a bunch of comedy podcasts. In this first-of-its-kind Taoism podcast, Dr. Carl Totton and Tod Perry discuss the basic concepts of Taoism, chapters of “The Tao Te Ching,” and most importantly, how it can help you find peace and happiness in today’s world

As always, please continue to share this campaign on Facebook and Twitter and if you are a member of BoardGameGeek.com, please show Wu Wei some love!

We are funded!!! The student has become the master!
almost 7 years ago – Fri, Apr 07, 2017 at 10:43:44 AM

Salutations my amazing backers!

In less than two weeks we have hit our minimum funding goal!!! I'm totally beside myself right now. Thank you so much. This has been a six year journey so far and thanks to you, Wu Wei: Journey of the Changing Path is going to be manufactured!

That gives us three whole weeks to work on these stretch goals! I've also been messing around with a solo level I'm thinking about calling "Training Mode". I'll talk more about that soon! Here are the current stretch goals just as a reminder. If you have any suggestions about additions to the game, please feel free to message me and I'll see what I can do!

Please share this campaign on Facebook and Twitter and if you are a member of BoardGameGeek.com, please show Wu Wei some love!

A solo campaign will be added to the rule book when we reach 400 backers!
almost 7 years ago – Wed, Apr 05, 2017 at 09:03:51 PM

Howdy Backers!

I've had quite a few requests for a solo campaign mode for Wu Wei! I have created what I'm calling "Training Mode". This will be added to the rule book when we reach 400 backers!

I named my game company Gray Wolf Games based on a material called antimony that is used to harden metals. In alchemy, it masquerades as the Gray Wolf and is said to be the final ingredient to the Philosopher's Stone (a symbol for enlightenment). Antimony means "not alone" and while I strongly believe in the social aspect of board gaming, I recognize that you may want to sharpen your skills in preparation for your next match. To that end, I have created the following scenario:

Solo Campaign Objectives

  • Collect all five animal cards with your student and return your student-master to the center and your original master to their temple.
  • Place eight walls in a cross formation
  • Place towers in all four corners of the board
  • All of this must be done in less than 20 turns.

Setup Changes

  • Place the first player marker with the sun side up in the middle of the board.
  • Set the yin-yang tiles to white-white
  • Set the tracking boards to whatever configuration suits you to start the game.
  • Place the Snake student on the center tile. You will always play as the Snake in the solo campaign.
  • Place the remaining four students on towns matching their color in the four corners of the board.

Rules Changes and Clarifications

  • You can move your student or master from the beginning of the game. You can split your movement if you have two masters.
  • Whenever the season changes to Winter, the gathering marker and the first player marker flip to the opposite side and the yin-yang tiles flip to black-black on the moon side and white-white on the sun side.
  • Masters can place towers in the four corners of the board.
  • Every time you move, flip a town over so the color side is facing down. That town no longer produces chi. When you have run out of towns to flip, the game is over.

As far as the story goes, I'd like to think that in this scenario, the Emperor has aligned with nature and is supporting the martial tradition. The Snake student and master are serving to unite the empire while preserving all lineages! A utopia indeed!

Please bear in mind that these rules and this scenario are subject to change. I will continue rigorous testing and I'm looking forward to receiving your feedback. I'm also working with some game designer friends to make sure it's a great experience for players. As always, thank you for being a part of the campaign! Keep putting the word out there! I'd love to add "Training Mode" to Wu Wei!

Best,
Justin
